The inclination data were determined after AF demagnetization of 50 mT. Green line = 0° inclination. Present-day field inclination = +48°. General correlation between high-amplitude magnetic susceptibility and positive inclination intervals suggests a way of dating serpentinization events and oxide precipitation episodes in Hole U1309D. However, positive inclination measurements must be interpreted with caution, as they may be drilling induced (see discussion in “Paleomagnetism”).
