Figure F13. Orthogonum lineare (SEM images of resin casts of boreholes) produced by an unknown heterotrophic organism. A, B. The parallel run of the galleries to Entobia boring cells and/or coralline algae cells produces the uncommon zigzaglike course of O. lineare. Apophyses emerge from the main galleries (arrows in B and D). C, D. Within this study, O. lineare is abundantly not smooth but rather verrucose. The diagnostic perpendicular bifurcation pattern is not illustrated. O. lineare was found in all three substrates (coral, coralline algae, and microbialite).
