This file is the readme file for the SEM (Scanning electron microscope images) supplementary material.

There are two folders for SEM images at two different vertical effective stresses (100 kPa and 21 MPa).
In both cases the sample was consolidated to the respective vertical effective stress and then unloaded to an overconsolidation ratio (OCR) of four before preparation for SEM imaging.

Within the '100kPa' and '21MPa' folders, there are subfolders for each of the six samples named after the consolidation test number;
in case of the '100kPa' folder the consolodation test corresponds to the resedimentation tests and in case of the '21MPa' folder the consolidation test corresponds to the constant-rate-of-strain consolidation (CRS) tests.

Within each subfolder there are SEM images, both backscattered electron (BSE) images as well as secondary electron (SE) images, in TIF format.
