Figure F5. X-ray diffraction pattern obtained on nonoriented bulk rock powder, Hole U1349A. Pattern shows the lack of clays (usually observed in the dashed-line area) in this sample, whereas iddingsite was evidenced petrographically in thin section. Two small peaks are visible at 7 and 6.5 Å that may correspond to kaolinite and zeolites. Numerous calcite peaks are indicated and nonattributed peaks correspond mainly to primary minerals (i.e., feldspar).
