If the sediment not recovered by XCB drilling in the upper 100 m of Hole U1388B is primarily muds and silty muds, then the abundances of coarser and finer lithologies are relatively uniform through the entire section at Site U1388. If the unrecovered sediments above ~100 mbsf are primarily sands and silts, then coarser lithologies are significantly more abundant in the upper 100 m of the section.
