The ACEX program was developed from Integrated Ocean Drilling Program (IODP)/Ocean Drilling Program (ODP) Proposal 533 by Jan Backman, Kate Moran, Bernard Coakley, Margo Edwards, Rene Forsberg, Ruth Jackson, Wilfried Jokat, Yngve Kristoffersen, Larry Mayer, Martin Jakobsson, Evgeny Musatov, and Nikita Bogdanov. WJ and YK collected all airgun seismic survey data; BC, ME and MJ provided high-resolution chirp sonar, sidescan sonar, and bathymetry data.

This publication was prepared by the ECORD Science Operator (ESO), as an account of work performed under the international Integrated Ocean Drilling Program, which is managed by IODP Management International (IODP-MI), Inc. ESO is made up of the British Geological Survey, the University of Bremen and the European Petrophysics Consortium (comprising the universities of Leicester, Montpellier, Aachen and the Free University of Amsterdam). Funding for the program is provided by the following agencies:

This IODP Scientific Prospectus is based on precruise IODP Science Advisory Structure (SAS) panel discussions and scientific input from the designated Co-chief Scientists on behalf of the drilling proponents. During the course of the cruise, actual site operations may indicate to the Co-Chief Scientists and the Operations Manager that it would be scientifically or operationally advantageous to amend the plan detailed in this prospectus. It should be understood that any proposed changes to the science deliverables outlined in the plan presented here are contingent upon the approval of the ECORD Science Operator Science Manager in consultation with IODP-MI.
