The FTJB (Run 14) returned to the rig floor with a completely worn hard-facing structure, all fingers (but one) of the lowermost row of the junk catcher missing, and two large cobbles of granoblastic basalt. W. The Smith hard formation 9⅞ inch 7JS tricone bit used in Run 15 to work the lowermost 2–3 m of the hole returned to the rig floor with cone bearings still tight and no worn teeth. The bit was severely under gauge (0.4 inches) with some shirttail wear and minor junk damage on its body (Y), indicating that the lowermost portion of the hole was under gauge. X.
