Objective:
|
Drill into deeply buried basement ridge 145 km from the spreading center, where basement temperatures may approach 140°C, to evaluate the influences of hydrothermal circulation on crustal evolution and microbiology. Sediment thickness is 890 m, and basement penetration will be 20–50 m.

Drilling and Logging program:

• RCB core through 910 m of sediment and into uppermost basement
• If time allows, install cone and casing through sediment
• Collect temperature measurements (SET)
