doi:10.14379/iodp.sp.356.2014 Risks and contingencyThere are several risks to achieving the objectives of this expedition as it involves an ambitious coring plan. For example, all of our sites are located in shallow water (<220 m water depth), so special precautions are required to ensure the safety of the crew and equipment. In particular, sea state and the resulting heave behavior of the ship as a result of weather conditions are critical. Additionally, the nature of the sediments could negatively impact coring/logging operations, hole stability, core recovery and quality, and rate of penetration. A series of alternate sites are available for contingency operations (Table T3). |
